Subscription-based social media is a hot topic right now, and more options are popping up all the time to compete with a certain household name. While OF has masses of internal traffic, the actual service leaves much to be desired, and thankfully businesses owned and run by actual adult performers are showing up to compete. Pocket Stars — owned by performer and entrepreneur Elle Brooke — is my favourite of the newer subscription services designed specifically for adult performers, and I think it might be yours too if you decide to give it a try!
Kinks & Fetishes on Pocket Stars
If you’re kinky like I am, Pocket Stars has one of the most explicitly kink-friendly terms of service of any subscription platform. While I don’t cater to all of the fetishes that they allow, I know there are loads of you that will be excited to explore things like watersports and ABDL! Personally, I’m excited to create more impact play content. I have a flogger that’s just dying to make an appearance on my page!
Browsing on Pocket Stars
For creators, gaining fans is as important as keeping them. As I mentioned above, OF has massive amounts of internal traffic, but there is no browse functionality for models. You cannot hit the OF homepage and apply a few filters to discover new performers. Models need to do all of their own advertising and networking, hence the amount of shout-for-shout and free page drops that you see.
In contrast, Pocket Stars has a brilliant system! You can search for performers using filtered tags that the models choose themselves, or you can flip through the explore page. Their explore page is really thoughtfully constructed, too — it’s randomized rather than based on scores or paid promotion. If you’re a model on Pocket Stars and you have fifty pieces of content up, you’ll have the opportunity to be shown on the explore page so more fans can find you. Frankly, I love that attempt at leveling the playing field.
Pocket Stars Functionality
So how does it actually work? Really well!
Much like OF, Pocket Stars is not an app and needs to be accessed on your browser. (In case you didn’t know, this is largely due to the parameters of what’s allowed on both the Apple app store and the Google Play store.) The mobile layout is great and it’s not missing any functionality when you compare it to the desktop version.
Where Pocket Stars really shines is in the media display. First of all, as a prolific gif-maker, I am stoked to see that my gifs on Pocket Stars actually show up under my photos tab. What a revelation! And when it comes to organizing photo sets, there’s no competition. Something I always disliked about OF was the way that photo sets are organized. You can see one photo at the outset, and you have to click through to see more. Only, if you click the wrong spot, you just maximise the photo. Basically, it’s clunky. In contrast, Pocket Stars displays your photo sets more like what you’d see in a WhatsApp message or on a Facebook album, where there are thumbnails of a few images and the option to click through to view them all. It looks so much nicer!
At the end of the day, I’m a slutty idealist. I want to shake my ass on a platform I can be proud of.
